Ten energy-saving tips in the office
Don't know how to save energy at work? The following tips will help you.
- 1 - Opt for daylight rather than using artificial light.
- 2 - Instead of using disposable cups, bring your own coffee mug or a glass that you can re-use.
- 3 - Electrical equipment should be turned off when not in use (lights, computer, photocopier, coffee machine), especially in the evenings and over the weekend.
- 4 - Once used up, printer and photocopier ink cartridges can be reconditioned werden: after collection, they are dismantled, cleaned, and the worn-out parts are replaced. The cartridge is then refilled with ink and it goes on sale again, with the same performance as a new product.
- 5 - Corporate printers and photocopiers generally include a "recto-verso" function: a good way of reducing the volume of a dossier. It is also practical to reduce document formats to be printed, thus saving paper. Finally, both sides of a piece of paper can be used for rough work.
- 6 - Use electronic mail as much as possible, to avoid using paper.
- 7 - Even when they are switched off, machines which are plugged in via a transformer (laptop or portable telephone, certain scanners, printers) still consume energy. The best solution is to plug them into a socket with an interrupter which you must remember to switch off.
- 8 - Take the stairs instead of a lift, whereever possible.
- 9 - Unplug laptops once their batteries are fully charged.
- 10 - If the windows in your office are equipped with blinds or curtains, close them at the end of the day in winter to alleviate heat loss. During summer, close them to avoid your office over-heating.
